STAFF at a charity shop in Warrington have been left shaken after several adults tried to steal a dinner set from a window display by using children to distract them.

The Mind charity shop on London Road, Stockton Heath, was targeted on Monday by the group of adults accompanied by children.

Writing on the Living in Stockton Heath Facebook page, the Mind charity spokesperson wrote on Monday night: “This evening our shop was targeted by several adults trying to steal our dinner set from the window whilst using children to distract the staff.

“We are so sad this has happened, this has really shaken up the female member of staff and our vulnerable volunteers.
“We find this really upsetting and very distressing that something like this could happen. I wanted to share this experience not only with everyone, but other charity shops as now it appears we are now being targeted..
“We are a mental health charity, this should not be happening. I am determined that it shall remain a safe space for our staff, volunteers and customers.”
Anyone with information is urged to get in touch with Cheshire Police on 101.
In the comments section, the Mind team explained they’d had thefts in the past “but not to this scale” and they likened it to being “ambushed.”
Residents expressed their concern and upset that the attempted theft had taken place.
