Changing rooms to get flood protection

WARRINGTON Borough Council has given itself planning permission for improved changing facilities at the council-owned Dallam Playing Fields – subject to measures to protect the site from flooding to a one-in-100 years standard.
Members of the planning committee gave the scheme the go-ahead after hearing there would be no loss of playing space at the Longshaw Street site.
The existing changing rooms were originally built in 1975 and extended in 2001. A storage container was added in 2003.
There were no objections to the scheme but the Environment Agency pointed out that the area is in the floodplain of Dallam Brook.
Precautionary measure to be provided include compensatory flood storage, flood resistant measures within the development and an emergency flood evacuation plan.
The existing changing rooms are to demolished within two months of the new ones being opened.
