WARRINGTON Rylands took a break from their league campaign to host Thackley AFC in the first qualifying round of this year’s FA Cup, beating them 4-0 at Gorsey Lane.

Thackley, who play in the Northern Counties East League Premier Division, held Warrington Rylands at bay during the first half. Highlights of the match were probably the referee being hit with the ball below the belt and when there was a delay to replace a damaged corner post.

With five minutes left to half time Sam Burns was felled by a deliberate foul by Luke Rhodes who was already on a yellow card, but the referee merely awarded a free kick.

Mark Duffy made a few changes in the second half, bringing on fresh legs in the sweltering heat of the afternoon but it was Dylan Dwyer who made the impact with ten minutes remaining by beating the Thackley keeper for the first goal of the match.

Thackley went down to 10 men soon after when Jake Burton was clearly fouled, but the referee wasn’t happy with the dissent that followed.

The Blues had several chances as the away side began to buckle. Luke Porter netted for the second following a pass from Cameron Rooney who nearly scored himself straight after. Jake Burton was the third player to be added to the score list with a double.

Warrington Rylands will now go back into the draw for the next round of the FA Cup.

Next Saturday The Blues are back in league action when they travel to Workington, who currently sit 10 places above them in tenth place.
