Properties evactuated and road closed as fire crews tackle suspected arson near electrical substation

PROPERTIES were evacuated as fire crews tackled a blaze involving a garden fence and a tree near an electrical substation at Great Sankey, Warrington, this afternoon (Thursday).

At 14:56 crews from Warrington and Penketh attended reports of a fire on Birdwell Drive, Great Sankey.

A garden fence and tree in close proximity to an electrical substation were on fire which also involved two cylinders. The fire is believed to have been started deliberately and the affected property and those adjacent were evacuated as firefighters tackled the fire.

The road was closed by police while the crews were putting out the fire and there were no apparent issues of fire spread to the substation.
