WARRINGTON Wizards entertain Rochdale Hornets Under 23s in their first pre-season fixture this Sunday lunch time (15th January).
The fixture takes place at Crosfields ARLFC’s Hood Lane ground and kicks off at 12.30pm.
The game will give new Wizards Head Coach Nick Owen and Assistant Coach Paul Alcock a chance to assess their players before the home Carnegie Challenge Cup Preliminary Round game against East Leeds at the beginning of February.
Wizards Club Administrator Dave Whalley said, “The players have been back in training since the beginning of November as Nick and Paul were determined to get them in as good a shape as possible before the season commenced. The lads have really responded well to this and have put in an unbelievable amount of effort over the past ten weeks and they are now raring to go out on the pitch. Rochdale will provide us with a very stiff challenge; they have recruited really well during the off season and their Head Coach John Stankevitch will be taking the game very seriously as he assesses the capabilities of his players to see if there are any who could step straight into his first team squad.”
Whalley added, “With Wilderspool Stadium being unavailable for this clash we are extremely grateful to Crosfields for allowing us to stage this fixture at their Hood Lane home. Hopefully we can attract a good crowd along for what promises to be an exciting encounter.”
