Warrington Town stun full-time Kidderminster

WARRINGTON Town came from behind to end Kidderminster Harriers perfect start to the season.

It looked like a routine afternoon was in store for Phil Brown’s side when Birmingham City loanee Ben Beresford headed home from Ashley Hemmings’ corner inside the first five minutes.

The hosts were disrupted by first half injuries to defenders Ollie Southern and Peter Clarke, who was substituted immediately after the goal, and Kidderminster controlled proceedings with Luke Summerfield pulling the strings.

Beresford should have done better with a free header from a Maliq Cadogan cross, before the Yellows started to grow in to the game.

Bohan Dixon won the ball back in midfield and good strength by Gez Sithole saw the ball fall for Matt Grivosti, playing for the first time this season following a suspension, and his first time left-foot shot was pushed around the post one-handed by Christian Dibble, a former Yellows loanee.

The equaliser came three minutes before the break, Connor Woods’ corner nodded down by Tom Hannigan for McDonald to sweep home left-footed off the inside of the post, despite the best efforts of Dibble and a defender on the line.

Kidderminster, whose boss Brown managed Hull City in the Premier League, didn’t assert the same dominance in the second half, though Maz Kouhyar was a constant threat on the left, and they didn’t create many clear cut chances as the Yellows were able to deal with any crosses that came in.

The best chance they had fell to defender Joe Foulkes, denied by a superb Evan Gumbs block in the box and on 75 minutes, the Yellows struck the killer blow.

Woods won the ball back in midfield and drove forward, he went down as he tried to skip past Paul Downing, but the loose ball fell to Mikey O’Neill who slid the ball past the onrushing Dibble.

It was backs against the wall for the Yellows after that, although they ultimately had the best two chances of the final 15 minutes.

Dibble denied Woods after he brought down a long Atherton free-kick, and then deep in injury-time, with Dibble out of his goal having come up for a corner, Josh Miles fired a shot wide from 40 yards out.
