AFTER their best ever set of A’ Level results last week, it has been the turn of Year 11 Lymm High School students to shine…. and they certainly haven’t disappointed with the school’s “best ever” GCSE results!
A delighted headteacher Gwyn Williams said: “We’ve grown quite accustomed to exam success at Lymm High School over the past few years and, whilst we knew this was a great year group and were expecting excellent results, there is always a bit of you worrying that this might be the year when things slip a little!
“In the event, these GCSE results are also the best the school has ever had – and in a year where the national picture seems to be that results have dropped slightly. After last week’s phenomenal A’ Level results, I could not be prouder of our students and the dedicated staff who have supported them on their journey.
“What is even more important than these results is that they are wonderful young people. We’ve had the pleasure of working with them since Year 7, and watching their well-deserved celebrations this morning as they opened their envelopes has been a truly magical experience.”
“The headline GCSE results are exceptionally strong again. For example, 88% of students met the benchmark of grades of 9–4 in both English and Maths, with 71% securing grades 9–5 in both subjects and 34% getting grades 9–7 in both. Across all subjects, 45% of grades were at 9–7. Remarkably, over 70% of our students achieved at least one grade 7 (i.e., equivalent to the old A grade).
“While official progress data, which considers students’ starting points, won’t be available from the government for a couple of months, it looks to be even better than last year, and we fully expect Lymm High School to once again rank among the very top state schools in the North West.
“Of course, the statistics only tell a tiny bit of the story. Behind the numbers lie a huge amount of hard work on the part of the young people concerned, combined with masses of support from families, teachers and other professionals. Success is almost always a team effort, and we pay tribute to everyone who has worked so hard over the last few years.
“This year, the very top performers with ten grade 9s were Sophia Cheung and Adam Hunt – an incredible performance given how difficult it is to get a 9, and how little margin for error there is in any one subject. Really well done, Sophia and Adam! ”

Very close behind with at least eight GCSE grade 8 or 9s were: Amber Ali-Snippe, James Booth, Josh Cooke, Rachel Cooke, Kiera Denwood, Elizabeth Dobson, Jasmine Egerton, Harry Evans, Ava Rose Exley, Holly Franklin, Lexie Garner, Ben McFerran, Joe Short, Benjy Walton, Tom Welsby, Eifion Williams, Ewan Wynne-Roberts.
Mr Williams added: “Well done again to all these students; and congratulations to all students who received the results they deserved and worked so hard to achieve. A heartfelt thank you to everyone – families, teachers and staff – who supported them along the way. Your efforts have truly made a difference.”
