Parents to be consulted

TWO events are set to take place in Warrington this month as part of an ongoing consultation on proposals to improve local special educational needs provision.
Parents of pupils at three schools have been invited to attend consultation events:
On Tuesday, January 10 at 6pm there will be an event for parents from all schools at Meadowside Primary School to discuss extending levels of support within mainstream schools and on Thursday, January 12 at 6pm there will be an event at Green Lane for Green Lane School and Fox Wood School.
The consultation was launched in November and these events follow on from this.
Council chiefs would like to remind parents, carers, children, young people and partner organisations that they are welcome to have their say before January 12.
The borough council’s executive board approved a range of proposals in October, following a period of review by parents, schools, partners and some groups of children.
If, following consultation, the proposals are agreed, provision in the town will change to be more flexible and responsive to the needs of local children now and in the future.
The recommendations include:
· A proposal to redesignate Grappenhall Hall School as a co-educational school.
· Proposals to extend the age range at Green Lane School for some pupils up to the age of 19 and link it more closely with Fox Wood Special School and to explore the co-location of the two schools on the site currently occupied by Woolston High School.
· A proposal to link each specialist provision based at a mainstream school with a special school.
· Specific proposals to increase the number of places available for children at specialist provisions.
·A proposal to investigate how some additional provision for pupils with more complicated needs who are on the autistic spectrum can be created.
The full document, including a summary and document designed for children to give feedback is available on the council website www.warrington.gov.uk/senreview
Feedback and responses are welcomed by email at [email protected], by post at SEN review, 2 Floor New Town House, Buttermarket Street, Warrington WA1 2NJ, or in person at one of the consultation events. Schools can also be contacted directly for more information.
