New proposals for retirement homes come before planners

NEW proposals for a development of retirement homes at Lymm are set to become before Warrington planning chiefs tomorrow (Thursday)

The scheme has been submitted by retirement home specialist McCarthy and Stone and is the third the company have put forward for land at Watercress Farm, off Thirlmere Drive, Lymm.
It proposes 36 one and two bedroom apartments in a part=three, part-two storey building.
Previous proposals were for 45 apartments and were opposed by nearly 60 residents and by Lymm Parish Council.
Amended proposals were for 42 homes and the latest scheme is for 36.

Parking for 26 cars is proposed, along with a terrace to provide an outdoor sitting area and interior communal facilities.
Objectors are concerned about loss of Green Belt land, the size and design of the development, parking in surrounding streets and possible flood risks.
Some residents argue that there are already sufficient retirement properties in Lymm – including a McCarthy and Stone development.
Planning officers point out that the scheme is part of a larger development of 136 homes and a health centre which already have planning consent.
The site is no longer in the Green Belt.
They say the plan is for a residential use on a site which is allocated for residential development in the Local Plan. It would make an important contribution to the provision of specialist accommodation for older people in the borough and, subject to conditions, there would be no unacceptable impacts on the amenity of the area, the amenity of neighbouring residents, highway safety, ecology, flood risk and drainage, heritage assets, noise, air quality or contamination or climate change.
They are recommending the proposals be approved.
