THE owners of the historic Pack Horse at Culcheth say they are committed to the future of the popular village pub, following its shock closure at the weekend.

News of the sudden closure of the oldest pub in the village, appeared on social media over the weekend, with owners Punch Pubs, actively seeking a new publican.

In September 2022 The Pack Horse, on Church Lane, Culcheth, was put up for lease with an asking price of £60,000.

The Pack Horse has a history of character – being the oldest pub in Culcheth, dating back to the 1700s.

It’s one of several pubs in the Warrington area which closed suddenly without warning in the past 12 months, including the Rope & Anchor at Woolston and the Rams Head at Grappenhall. Both of which have since re-opened.

A Punch Pubs & Co spokesperson said: “We can confirm that the Pack Horse pub in Culcheth is currently closed. We are recruiting new Publicans to oversee the long-term success of the pub and hope to welcome the community back through the doors in the coming weeks. We encourage anybody interested in this opportunity to contact our recruitment team on 01283 501999.”
