Warrington Sport for All Centre in Latchford has raised over £5,000 for the British Heart Foundation through a Charity Junior Basketball Tournament.
The event was organised by Tom Berry in memory of his Dad, John Berry, a regular parent at the centre and former Lymm High School caretaker, who tragically passed away from a heart attack in 2021.
The Charity Basketball Tournaments saw enthusiastic participation from over 30 junior teams from aged six to 15 from across the North West. The tournaments not only fostered community spirit but also honoured the legacy of John Berry, bringing together friends, family and basketball enthusiasts for a noble cause.
Tom Berry, Basketball Development Officer and Event Organiser, dedicated the event to his father’s memory. Tom said: “Organising the event in memory of my Dad has been incredibly meaningful and I’m humbled by the amount of people who got involved. The support from the community has been overwhelming and we’re so pleased with the amount we’ve raised towards the British Heart Foundation’s crucial work in combating heart disease.”
Josh McGann, Centre Manager said: “We’re all extremely proud of Tom for organising such a fantastic event. His dedication to honouring his Dad’s memory and supporting a great cause is truly inspiring. The success of this tournament highlights the strong community we have at the centre and the shared commitment to making a positive impact, we’re hoping to do the same again next year!”
The funds raised will go directly to the British Heart Foundation, supporting vital research and initiatives aimed at preventing heart disease and saving lives. Warrington Sport for All Centre extends its thanks to all the teams, volunteers and supporters who made this event a success.
