MARIZA Dee, a member of the team at Westvale House Care Home at Old Hall, Warrington, has been crowned Carer of the Year in a prestigious regional awards competition.
She is now through to the national finals of the Barchester Care Awards 2024.
The awards celebrate the staff who go the extra mile for the benefit of the 13,000 residents living in Barchester’s 261 care homes and private hospitals across the country.
Categories range from “Registered Nurse of the Year” and “Carer of the Year” to “Dementia Care Champion” and “Activities Co-ordinator of the Year”.
More than 5,000 nominations were received from across the UK – all of a very high standard and Mariza is over the moon to have been named the winner for the North West Division beating hundreds of other nominees.
She said: “I am in utter shock. I never expected this. I love my job, the home and everyone here. I am excited to attend the National Awards and hope to bring home the award. Thank you to those who nominated me, it means so much.”
As the winner for the North West, Mariza is through to the national finals at which the overall winner is decided.
She will join winners from across the UK at a special awards event in October to celebrate their outstanding achievements and discover if they have won a national award.

“She is the most passionate person and is dedicated to her work. She is an inspiring leader and makes such a difference to our home and all our residents are truly fond of her. She is also super creative and is always enthusiastic to support with our events.”
The team at Westvale pride themselves on the varied life enrichment programme which keeps residents active and provides a daily choice of engaging physical, mental and spiritual activities tailored to residents’ interests and abilities.
Westvale House Care Home is run by Barchester Healthcare , one of the UK’s largest care providers. It provides residential care, nursing care and respite care.
