M62 re-opens following serious collision involving car and two HGVs

The M62 at Warrington has now re-opened following a serious collision involving a car and two HGVs as firefighters worked to release a trapped casualty.

Fire engines from Penketh, Warrington and Lymm along with a major rescue unit from Winsford attended the scene following the collision at 5;30am, with the Westbound carriageway remaining closed into the afternoon.

At 7.20 am One casualty had been released from one of the vehicles and handed to the care of paramedics.

National Highways was alerted to the collision involving one car and two HGVs on the westbound carriageway between Junctions 9 (Warrington) and 8 (Burtonwood) at 5.30am on Thursday 11 July 2024.
The M62 is also closed westbound J9 (M6) – J7 #Rainhill in Cheshire.
Police have advised the entrance slip at J8 westbound will remain closed for emergency services to access the scene.
Emergency services are in attendance and the carriageway is likely to remain closed through the peak morning period.
Heavy congestion is likely and drivers are advised to find an alternative route.
One lane of the M62 is also closed on both carriageways between Junctions 7 and 8 following an earlier collision during which the barrier sustained damage.
Westbound diversion route
Exit the M62 westbound at J9. At the roundabout, take the 1st exit and follow the A49 southbound until the A574 roundabout. At the roundabout, take the 3rd exit and follow the A574 roundabout until the Westbrook Way Roundabout. Take the 2nd exit and follow Westbrook Way until the Burtonwood Road roundabout. Traffic should now follow the hollow square. At the Buttonwood Road roundabout, take the 3rd exit onto Whittle Avenue southbound. At the roundabout with Malvern Close, take the 3rd exit onto Lingley Green Avenue westbound and pass through four roundabouts. At the A57 junction, turn right onto the A57 westbound and continue onward to then re-join the M62 at J7.

UPDATE 13.30: Cheshire Police have left the scene and national Highways are involved in the final stages of the clean up process.
