Runner defies surgeons to complete 168 mile Montane Spine Race

AFTER falling off his bike as a child and injuring his knee on a broken bottle Chris Lees was told by surgeons he’d never been able to take part in sports again.

Fast forward a few decades and the founder of Lymm Runners recently completed the 168 mile Montane Spine Race from Hawes to Kirk Yetholm in the Scottish Borders!

Chris formed Lymm Runners after putting up a few posters around the village looking for run buddies so he didn’t have to run alone.
As a child he fell off his bike onto a broken bottle and severely damaged his knee. Surgeons told his parents he’d never play football or be able to take part in any sports again and he’d possibly be unable to walk normally.

Proud wife Jackie said: “His achievements since and the fact that, aged 59, he ran over 130 miles during the Montane Spine Race, with only 2 hours sleep, probably tells you how fit and stubbornly determined he is!”
