National Brain Appeal charity fundraiser raises nearly £300 on National Cream Tea Day

A charity fundraiser organised by Jen Perry from Room Forty which involved baking hundreds of scones on National Cream Tea Day, raised nearly £300 for the National Brain Appeal.

Her loyal customers, friends and local businesses dug deep into their wallets and sacrificed their waistbands in support of her baking endeavour by buying her award winning scones with clotted cream and jam to support the National Brain Appeal.

‘Warrington has a big heart’, said Jen, ‘I knew that everyone would offer support and come and buy. I’m humbled but not surprised by the response. Thanks so much to all of you’.

Jen’s friend, local Warrington businessman Gary Skentelbery, owner and co-founder of Warrington Worldwide, launched an awareness campaign regarding early onset dementia along with a support group for those suffering last month. The support group is there to help those suffering along with their family and friends and open to all in Warrington and from the surrounding area.

Jen continued, ‘Dementia is a horrible disease that affects so many people and impacts on so many – loved ones, family and friends. It isn’t a disease that just affects older adults, it shocks me that it affects younger people too. That is why by raising a little money to support research and also help raise awareness was so important to me’.

Gary added: “A huge thank you to Jen for organising this event and helping raise funds for research into this devastating disease which is sadly now becoming more common in younger people. Not only does it help raise vital funds for research it also helps raise awareness that dementia just doesn’t impact older people.”

The event was held on National Cream Tea Day, 28 June and kindly hosted by by JD Kitchens in Padgate. Who allowed the use of their stunning showroom and Neff ovens for the bake, with funds raised going to the National Brain Appeal, who raise funds for research in rare dementias.
