Road closures for Bawming the Thorn and Thelwall Rose Queen

A number of road closures will be on place on Saturday (June 15) for the annual Bawming the Thorn at Appleton Thorn and Thelwall Rose Queen.

Bawming the Thorn will see local school children carrying out the medieval tradition of Bawming the Thorn at midday while at Thelwall, the annual carnival parade and crowning of Thelwall Rose Queen will take place in the afternoon.

Warrington Borough Council has issued an order on the occasion of the above-mentioned events, no cart, carriage, motor car, lorry or other vehicle (excepting vehicles taking part in the event, Police, Ambulance and Fire Service vehicles and Mail Carts) and no horses or other animal be allowed to remain in or travel along or over any of the undermentioned streets:

Between the hours of 11:30am and 1:30pm on Saturday 15th June 2024:
Lumb Brook Road New Lane to Grappenhall Lane
Grappenhall Lane New Lane to Stretton Road
Stretton Road Walnut Tree Lane to Grappenhall Lane
Pepper Street Stretton Road to Chapel Lane
Chapel Lane Pepper Street to Arley Road
Arley Road Burley Lane to Grappenhall Lane
N.B. An alternative route will be available for through traffic via: New Lane, Lumb Brook Road, Witherwin Avenue, Longwood Road, Dipping Brook Avenue, Blackcap Road and vice versa.

Thelwall Rose Queen
Between the hours of 12:30 pm and 2:30 pm on Saturday 15th June 2024:
Bell Lane Lymm Road to Thelwall New Road
Thelwall New Road Bell Lane to Prestbury Drive
Alderley Road Thelwall New Road to Prestbury Drive
Prestbury Drive Alderley Road to Thelwall New Road
Stanton Road Thelwall New Road to Moore Avenue
Moore Avenue Stanton Road to All Saints Drive
All Saints Drive Moore Avenue to Thelwall New Road
Lymm Road Bell Lane to Stockport Road
N.B. An alternative route will be available for through traffic via: Bradshaw Lane, Knutsford Road, Stockport Road and vice versa.
Vehicular access to premises will only be permitted under the guidance of the organisers. Pedestrian and emergency routes will be maintained.
Bicycles and Tricycles are included in the term “vehicle” and must not be ridden through any of the above streets during the hours specified. Any person willfully acting in contravention of the above order will be liable to a penalty not exceeding £400.
