WARRINGTON & Vale Royal College is breathing new life into its Winsford campus, as it begins the transformation to become a new partner Institute of Technology (IoT).

Recent visitors and passers-by of the college’s Winsford campus will have undoubtedly noticed the fresh signage adorning the building, signifying the start of this exciting evolution. The transformation is well underway, ready to welcome new students in September 2024.
This initiative is part of the government’s plan to establish a network of IoTs across the country, aiming to provide top-tier technical education and training. With a significant investment of £290 million from the government and support from key employer partners, each IoT will focus on a particular specialism. These include medical engineering, high-value manufacturing, cloud networking, and healthcare.

Winsford campus’ Institute of Technology will specialise in healthcare and life sciences, building on the success of the Health & Social Care Academy (HSCA) at Warrington campus, which launched in 2022 to great praise. The college has successfully secured funding to establish a HSCA at Winsford campus, along with a new Life Sciences Academy featuring a fully-equipped science laboratory.
The campus as a whole will benefit from this investment, with communal areas also undergoing a revamp. Enhanced facilities will include collaborative work spaces for students and employer partners, access to digital resources, and modern meeting spaces. Additionally, the campus will be expanding its adult offer, introducing new part-time and full-time courses, as well as specialist apprenticeships.

As construction progresses and the vision for Winsford campus takes shape, Warrington & Vale Royal College remain committed to fostering a dynamic learning environment that meets the evolving needs of students and employer partners alike. With the establishment of the Cheshire & Warrington Institute of Technology, the college is poised to play a pivotal role in driving innovation, economic growth, and opportunity in the region.
