STRETTON-based charity, Home Instead Charities UK, is celebrating 10 years of preventing loneliness and isolation in ageing adults.

The charity is the charitable arm of national home care company, Home Instead making them the only home care company to have their own national charity.
In the 10 years the charity has had a positive impact on 60,000 people who have benefitted from days out to technology to keep them connected with loved ones and activity packs to keep the mind stimulated.
Approaching £500,000 has been raised, much of it coming from donors at Home Instead’s national office team in Stretton (who have run marathons, taken on cycling challenges and arranged bake sales) and the company’s network of franchise offices across the UK.

A generous grant from the Access Foundation in 2023 helped the charity to set up 24 Companionship Cafes. These provide safe and welcoming spaces where people can go to enjoy good company and refreshments. They are run with the support of volunteers from Home Instead offices.
The charity has also launched the Home Instead Charities Lottery which is now generating income from regular lottery members.
Highlights in the charity’s fundraising calendar are its annual Golf Day, held at Mottram Hall Hotel and Carols by Candlelight at Manchester Cathedral.

Commenting on this milestone birthday, Executive Director of Home Instead Charities, Penny Hamer said, “Our purpose is to bring joy to people and I’m really proud that we have been achieving that for 10 years now.
“Our new Companionship Cafes have been a huge success and bring people from local communities together.
“I’d like to take this opportunity to thank our trustees and everyone who supports us – it means a lot.”
