Young Onset Dementia support group launches in Warrington

A YOUNG Onset Dementia support group has been launched in Warrington by registered charity the Alzheimer’s Society, meeting at the Pavilion in Bank Bark, near the town hall.

The group meets on the second Tuesday of each month from 6.30 pm to 8 pm at the premises off Crosfield Street, Warrington WA1 1UP and is reaching out to those within the Warrington community who the disease has impacted.

While still relatively rare, there have been increasing numbers of Young Onset Dementia, which can come on at any age, most commonly in the 40s and 50s.

My wife was diagnosed almost six years ago with Frontotemporal Dementia, (FTD) which impacts speech, comprehension and empathy and as a family, we have now decided to go public to help raise awareness.

My wife was just 51 when diagnosed, after two years of being misdiagnosed by her GP, who was treating her for menopause.
Unfortunately, we had to go private and have a brain scan to get the devastating diagnosis and six years ago there was little or no support out there and we were told to “carry on a normal the best you can.”
