VOTING chatter may be focused on politics right now, but there are some other local campaigns where your support and vote can make a huge difference.
The first of these is Lymm Community Garden. The green light has been given by Warrington Borough Council for the next stage of development which will see memorial benches and further landscaping. The garden project is run by the Business Centre along with volunteers and local organisations including Lymm in Bloom and Lymm Gardening Club.
Two recent plant sales have boosted the fundraising but the campaign has some way to go to cover all stages. For anyone wishing to support with either gardening time or a donation, please get in touch or visit the garden campaign page via the Hub website listed below.
The Hub’s community projects are all thriving due to the commitment of volunteers, reflecting the resilience and support of our local community.
The Digital Café has now helped over 100 people with phone, tablet and laptop issues. Monthly tutorials also continue to run on further digital topics, from internet safety through to playing Bridge online!
Meanwhile, LymmPaC has introduced evening sessions, 7-8pm on the first Tuesday of every month, to complement the Wednesday morning group and support those who cannot meet in the daytime. Both sessions offer friendly peer support for parents/carers of children on the SEND pathway.
Many attendees also benefit from cross-referrals. For example, an elderly lady who attends the Memory Cafe and Singing for the Brain groups is able to continue attending due to the assistance of a volunteer from The Lymm Companions (TLC) befriending project.
Despite the success of its projects, the Hub is mindful that there are still many support gaps in the community. It is with this in mind that June will see an appeal to local residents to cast a (non-political) vote to help steer its future projects.
The campaign will run during Lymm Festival. Local residents are asked to vote for their favourite idea from a shortlist compiled during the Hub’s National Lottery Open Week engagement event. They are:
1. A weekly drop-in for adults offering activities, refreshments and a place to socialise.
2. Pop-up advice surgeries with external providers such as the CAB, LEAF, Health and Legal Advisers; and
3. Improving access to reach local community groups and services.
