WARRINGTON & Vale Royal College, operating across two campuses in Warrington and Winsford, is offering free* English and maths courses for adults.

The part-time courses, aimed at students aged 19 or over, begin in September 2024. Courses include English Functional Skills, English GCSE, Maths Functional Skills, and Maths GCSE.
According to the UK Government, around 8 million adults in the UK aren’t skilled enough in maths, placing higher level study and rewarding jobs out of reach. Warrington & Vale Royal College wants to help its local community to achieve these qualifications, which are required from most employers and universities. Improving these vital English and maths skills will also make everyday tasks such as paying bills, budgeting for the month, and helping with homework that bit easier to manage.

Sophie Smithdale, Curriculum Manager for English at the college, says: “We are really pleased to be able to offer these courses for adults in our local community. The ability to communicate effectively and handle numeracy tasks is important in both our personal and professional life.”
Alongside the English and maths offering is a wide range of part-time courses for adults, designed to help them retrain and upskill. Start dates for these courses vary, and so the college advises anybody with an interest to visit: wvr.ac.uk/adults to browse the full selection.
