WARRINGTON completed a 10-wicket demolition of Cholmondeley with time to spare at Walton Lea in the Cheshire Cricket League.
It was perhaps an early indication that Warrington, relegated from the Cheshire County League last year, could soon be on their way back up.
Winning the toss, skipper Brad Roden asked the visitors to bat first and was promptly rewarded as Eswar Peddi, 4-18, Praveen Prahlad, 3-28 and Ashley Scholes, 2-7, tumbled them out for 75 in 35.2 overs.
Asmir Ali, 29 not out and Liam Jenkins, 35 not out, chased down the runs in just 14 overs.
Meanwhile, in the County League premier division, Grappenhall’s great start to the season came to an abrupt end with a heavy defeat at Didsbury.
Skipper Ben Bodha won the toss and elected to bat first – a decision he probably regretted as the normally powerful Grappenhall batting line up collapsed to 77 all out in the 24th over.
Only three batters reached double figures and Kiwi Tom MacRury was top scorer with 18.
The meagre target gave little encouragement to the bowlers and the home side got to within eight runs of victory before they lost a wicket.
Grappers used five bowlers but the first four could not break through and it was left to Arav Shetty to claim the only wicket at a cost of 18 runs.
Grappenhall 2nd lost by seven wickets to Eaton Mersey despite posting a respectable 169.
Manav Iyer top-scored with 36 and skipper Graeme Rowlands hit 26. But although Grapper took three early wickets the visitors coasted to 170-3.
Lymm Oughtrington Park registered a convincing four-wicket victory at Aston after the home side chose to bat first but were rolled over for 65 in 31.2 overs.
Doing the damage were Antonnel Atwell, 4-7 and Shoven Chattergee, 3-21.
Atwell was also on form with the bat and his 27 – top score in the match – set Lymm on the road to victory.
Appleton went down by 102 runs at home to Bowdon Vale after the visitors hit a decent 213 all out.
Adam Peters, 3-38, was the pick of the Appleton bowlers.
Appleton were never really in the hunt, despite a lively 28 from Ian Richards and 23 from skipper Adam Pearson.
They were all out for 111.
It was a disappointing weekend for Appleton generally as the 2nd, 3rd and 4th teams all lost.
But there were some good individual performances. Veteran Anthony Hurst top scored with 30 and Arun Arungunasekaram took 6-35 for the 2nd XI and Mark Sands hit 40 for the 3rd XI.
Glazebury won by seven wickets at home to Frodsham.
Dave Nicholson took 3-34 as the visitors were bowled out for 153.
Opener Wayne Hargreaves laid the foundation for Glazebury’s reply with a solid 24.
But the innings was dominated by a magnificent unbeaten 89 from Anthony Meulman which included six sixes and seven fours. Glazebury finished on 154-3 in the 31st over.
