CULCHETH Community Day, scheduled to take place this Bank Holiday Monday, has been cancelled at the eleventh hour, due to recent heavy rain.
Organisers have been advised to cancel the event after an inspection of the village green by Warrington Borough Council – and it is hoped to rearrange the event for the next Bank Holiday in May on Monday the 27 th.
Despite extensive drainage works in a bid to solve flooding problems on the village green, recent heavy rains have left it very boggy underfoot and unsuitable for vehicles to access.
One of the organisers, Sue Bland, said it had been decided to take on board the advice and push back the event until the end of the month, in the hope conditions will improve underfoot.
“The borough council has advised us to cancel the event planned for Monday and to be fair it is very bad underfoot.
“We now hope to hold the event at the end of the month.”
It is not the first time Community Day has been cancelled due to heavy rain and flooding – and it had been hoped that the drainage works, costing tens of thousands of pounds, would have resolved the issue.
