Three historic town houses could be converted for student accommodation

THREE historic town houses in Warrington’s Palmyra Square Conservation Area will be converted into single bedroom student accommodation, if planners give the go-ahead.

The proposal is to convert the three properties – most recently used as solicitor’s offices – into two houses in multiple occupation (HMOs)
Documents submitted to the borough council’s planning department say the properties date from the early 1900s .
They are described as “relatively impressive buildings with a number of fine architectural details and features.”
An adjoining garage would be converted into offices, if the proposals are approved.

Two of the houses would be converted into one property with 15 bedrooms while the third would have 12 bedrooms.
The aim is to create single occupancy low-cost housing for student accommodation.
Storage for 28 cycles would be provided.
The properties are Grade 2 Listed and the proposals recognise that this, together with the location in the conservation area, means careful restoration is required.
Warrington Borough Council planning officers are studying the scheme.
