Special education consultation

A MAJOR consultation exercise is under way at Warrington on proposals to reform local special educational needs provision.
The borough council is inviting parents, carers, children, young people and partner organisations to comment on proposals approved by the council’s executive board.
Closing date for comments is January 10.
According to the council, the proposals – if agreed – will change provision in Warrington, making it more flexible and responsive to the needs of local children now and in the future.
Recommendations include:
*Redesignating Grappenhall Hall School as a co-educational school.
*Extending the age range at Green Lane School for some pupils up to the age of 19, linking it more closely with Fox Wood Special School, exploring the co-location of the two schools on the site currently occupied by Woolston High School.
*Link each specialist provision based at a mainstream school with a special school.
*Specific proposals to increase the number of places available for children at specialist provisions.
*Investigate the creation of some additional provision for pupils with more complicated needs who are on the autistic spectrum.
The full document, including a summary and document designed for children to give feedback is available from the council website www.warrington.gov.uk/senreview
Feedback and responses can also be emailed to [email protected] or posted to SEN review, 2 Floor New Town House, Buttermarket Street, Warrington WA1 2NJ.
It can also be given in person at one of the consultation events taking place in schools over the next few weeks. Schools will have more information.
