SIX fire crews and the animal rescue unit attended a multi-vehicle collision on the M56 at Stretton, near Warrington, in which a dog sadly died.
Shortly before 5pm on Friday, emergency services were called to reports of a multi-vehicle collision on the M56 Eastbound between J9 and J10 near Stretton.
Six fire engines from Warrington, Birchwood, Runcorn, Frodsham, Knutsford and Lymm, plus the animal rescue unit from Bollington attended at the scene.
The collision involved three cars and one van. Firefighters worked to release one casualty from a vehicle. Two dogs were in one of the cars, hence the deployment of the animal rescue unit. Sadly one dog is deceased. The incident is affected two lanes of the motorway and traffic was heavy.
The motorway has since re-opened.
