Make your home look lived in

AS the dark nights draw in police are advising Warrington people to make sure their homes look “lived in.”
Traditionally at this time of year there tends to be an increase in the number of burglaries reported to police as homes are left in darkness while people are out at work.
Detective Inspector Matt Durcan said: “Many burglars are attracted to homes that have been left in darkness. The nights are starting to close in and, once the clocks go back, it will be getting darker a lot earlier.
“We are urging residents to take a few simple steps to ensure their home is secure especially if you are going to be late home from work or out for the night.”
Police suggest people review their security to reduce their chances of being targeted. They advise putting timers on lights and radios to give the impression someone is home, ensure all windows and doors are secured and to keep valuables out of sight.
People should also ensure garages and sheds are locked, and consider other security measurers such as outside lights, movement sensors and using gravel which is noisy if anyone steps on it.
They are also encouraged to be good neighbours and to report any suspicious activity.
Anyone with information about this type of crime is urged to call police on 0845 458 0000. Information can also be passed on anonymously, via Crimestoppers, on 0800 555 111.
