Lovely Lane closed and homes evacuated due to gas meter fire

UPDATED: LOVELY Lane was closed and homes evacuated following a gas meter fire.

The incident was reported to police at 3.24pm today, when officers were made aware of a gas leak on Lovely Lane, Warrington.

Three fire crews from Warrington,Penketh and Birchwood attended at the scene.
The fire involved a gas meter needing the attention of firefighters who closed the road and evacuated nearby properties as a precaution.
Police also attended and a cordon was set up around the area. The crews used specialist paste and a hose reel to help stem the leak and Cadent Gas also attended.

A Cheshire police spokesperson said: “Emergency services are currently in attendance at the scene and the road is closed in both directions between Pink Eye roundabout and Goulden Street.
“A small number of homes have been evacuated as a precautionary measure and residents are advised to avoid the area at this time.
“Further updates will be provided when available.
