FOUR new activity programmes for young people in the 14-24 age range are to kick-off at Warrington – thanks to funding from Sport England.
The programmes launch at Woolston Neighbourhood Hub and Fordton Leisure Centre tomorrow (Friday) as part of a national programme, Sportivate – a lottery funded initiative that aims to use the forthcoming Olympic Games as a motivational tool to get more people active.
Woolston’s swimming pool will be running an eight week Swimfit programme, offering the support of swimming teachers to tailor individual training programmes aimed at developing people’s technique and using a variety of training aids to support people to lose weight, shape up or get fit. Classes will be in the new pool on a Monday and Thursday from 4.30pm – 6pm from November 7.
Fordton Leisure Centre will run a six week programme of new classes including circuits and spinning, all led by a qualified fitness instructor to support individuals’ development and give them advice on meeting their training goals. Classes will run on a Friday from 5pm – 6pm and a Saturday from 2pm – 3pm from Friday October 28.
Cllr Kate Hannon, executive member for leisure, community and culture, said:
“I’m delighted that Woolston and Fordton have been successful in their funding bids and can now provide these fantastic new activities to residents. I hope lots of people will take the opportunity to get fit and try out the new activity programmes.”
All participants will receive a free annual Wellbeing membership card if they attend a minimum of six classes, which gives you great discounts on all activities at all Leisure Warrington sites and a free fitness goodie bag!
