Report & Pictures John Hopkins
WARRINGTON Rylands’ match at FC United of Manchester was abandoned after 61 minutes as persistent rain made an already waterlogged pitch unplayable.
Both teams were united in agreeing with the referee that conditions were too poor to continue the goalless game.
It was debatable whether the match should have gone ahead in the first place as United’s groundsman worked diligently to prepare a waterlogged pitch even though more rain was forecast
As soon as the players took to the pitch the rain began, increasing to a heavy downpour as the minutes ticked by.
After 61 minutes the referee consulted with his linesman and agreed that the conditions had deteriorated so much it wasn’t safe to continue
The replay will now take place on Tuesday 5th March.
HIGHLIGHTS!👇🏻
Despite the game being abandoned, it was an entertaining 50 minutes of football from both sides and two excellent displays by goalkeepers to keep it goalless until the referee’s whistle. https://t.co/5m59oYT1Uy#CommunityClub #WeAreRylands #OneClub #OneCommunity
