WARRINGTON singing sensation Max Vickers still has the X-Factor with staff and students at his former college in the town.
Staff and students at Priestley College are predicting a bright future for the young singer, even though he failed to reach the final stages of hit TV show The X-Factor.
The 19-year-old from Stockton Heath impressed the judges with his performance – but not sufficiently to progress into the final 16.
But he says he learned a lot from appearing on the show – and particularly from visiting the Los Angeles home of judge Gary Barlow where he picked up useful tips from the Take That star and Robbie Williams.
Max said: “To find myself suddenly in Los Angeles with the likes of Gary Barlow and Robbie Williams was just a dream. They were really good to me and fully supportive.
“Unfortunately I didn’t make the last 16, but the show has given me the direction I needed and I’m now working on a range of other projects.”
Gary Barlow said: “Initially Max reminded me of Justin Timberlake, particularly with his choice of song – but then he set himself aside with his own unique style. He’s intriguing and makes you want to watch, he was certainly different to any other boy we had on this year’s show.”
Max won through the auduitions and made the final eight young male singers taken under the wing of Barlow – but just missed out on the final four to go through to the live finals which start this weekend.
While at Priestley, Max had a sound grounding in the arts and studied BTEC performing arts, A-Level Graphics and A-Level Fine Art before moving on to the Art Foundation Diploma programme.
He also appeared in a college production, “Spring Awakening” and then focussed on developing his music performance and style during the Art Foundation Diploma.
Sarah Graham, head of Performing Arts at Priestley, said: “Max did us proud on the show – he really put himself out there and you could see he had been practicing in order to stamp his own style on the programme. Everybody at the college is sure he will really go places in the future.”
Max is now in his first year at UCLAN studying Acting and Drama.
He is also very excited that he has also been picked up by SBTV http://sbtv.co.uk/ and recorded 4 tracks for them.
His first video of a song that he wrote himself has had more than 15,000 views in less than 4 days
