Work ongoing following flooding issues

WORK is ongoing to tackle flooding issues which resulted in the closure of Ackers Lane at Stockton Heath and flooded roads in the Orford area of Warrington.

Temporary traffic lights have been set up on Ackers Lane, which was closed for two days from New Year’s Day, after flooding due to heavy rain and issues with a mains pipe, while tree roots near Orford Park have been blamed for slow drainage on local roads.

A Warrington Borough Council spokesperson said: “Our Highways Team have been working onsite to clear the flood at Ackers Road. We have cleared the flood water, excavated the footway and identified the issue with the mains pipes. The road has now been reopened, and our teams are continuing to work to ensure there isn’t any further damage in any other nearby areas.”

“We have also received reports of flooding in Orford. This area has a large number of trees in and around Orford Park, as well as several tree-lined streets. The roots from these trees can cause slow-running drains, rather than a total blockage caused by debris, which can be an issue during periods of heavy rainfall. We continue to maintain these gullies, and identify and clear blockages due to tree roots to ensure they are clear and run as well as possible.”

“We undertake routine cleansing of highway gullies, the frequency of which depends on type of road and location.”
“When specific issues are reported to us, we investigate and take appropriate action. If the blocked drain or gully is causing flooding which is obstructing a road, you can report this on our website or call us on 01925 443322, so that we can deal with this as soon as possible.”

  1. What a load of bull the gulleys of all roads in Warrington are full of sludge and decomposed leaves . This is what is blocking the drains .
I’m sure it’s easier and quicker to brush these up instead of having to get a gulley sucker out to remove the dredge from the drains

    • ***CLEANSING OF HIGHWAY GULLIES***??????
which area has this been done? because i have not seen this done, must be over 20 YEARS AGO NOW!
cant even empty BINS FOR 11 WEEKS EITHER !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
where exactly is OUR COUNCIL TAX going?
      in broomheads back pocket !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!?????????????????????????

  2. I would have thought where there is a large concentration of trees adjacent to roads in the town it would be obvious that leaves would fall from the trees into the gutters and cause problems.
It doesn’t take a scientist to work that out.
WBC Should have a strategy to target these areas first to prevent any potential problems
    It’s not rocket science !

    • W.B.C.supposed to have a Professor at the helm!
but MUST be rocket science to him or just doesnt CARE!
***DO NOT PUT ANY LEAVES OFF THE STREETS INTO YOUR GREEN BIN!***
this is W.B.C. job to maintain highways to a good standard!
but like everything else they do is a COMPLETE DISASTER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
