PLANS for a “pump track” to be used by cyclists, skateboarders and scooter riders at Chapelford are being considered by planning chiefs at Warrington.
The scheme involves the use of land in Dakota Park and has been the subject of widespread consultation with local residents.
Although it has resulted in some people expressing concern about an increase in anti-social behaviour in the area, the vast majority of residents support the scheme.
Police have indicated that in some areas, the provision of a “pump track” has resulted in a reduction in anti-social behaviour.
Dakota Park is a modern park that was developed during the construction of the Chapelford Village housing development.
The park consists of open green space, children’s play areas, a multi use games area, a viewing area and footpath network around the edge and across the middle. Around the eastern boundary of the site are trees and hedges.
There is some formal use of the park for football and cricket.
A pump tracks is used by bikers, skateboarders ans scooter riders. It requires little or no pedalling with the riders using a pumping action to propel the vehicle along a track which has a series of hills and corners.
The proposals have been put forward by the borough council in partnership with Great Sankey Parish Council.
A decision is expected in the near future.
