IN the build-up to the big day Father Christmas and his team of helpers from Warrington Lions have been delivering Christmas cheer to the streets of Warrington while raising funds for local good causes.
Santa Tony Gandy, President of Warrington Lions, helped bring smiles to the faces of hundreds of children across the town in the build-up to Christmas Day while at the same time raising thousands of pounds to support local good causes.
On one night, there were more than 120 children on Howson Road, Orford, waiting to greet Father Christmas on his sleigh.
Thanking everyone who made donations Tony said: “Every penny we raise goes to local good causes and charities. We don’t take a penny out of our collections for expenses.”
Donations of between £250 and £500 have already been handed out to the Partially Sighted Centre on Fairfield Street, MENCAP, Helping Hands, Irish club Morris Dancers, Warrington Women’s Refuge, Bruche Junior FC, Ronald McDonald House, St Mary’s SSP, Music and Memories, Padgate Ladies Netball and St Rocco’s Hospice.
Tony says Father Christmas weill be back next year to carry on the good work in the locla community.
Meanwhile Warrington Lions meet at Woolston Sports Club on the 1st and 3rd Monday of the month and are always on the lookout for new members.
If anyone is interested in joining and being part of the team just turn up at any meeting – and you will be more than welcome.
