A 32-year-old drug dealer who has been using cannabis since he was just 13 walked free from court when a judge heard he had reduced his personal usage and not been in trouble since his arrest.
Thomas Morley was arrested after police raided his home in Noble Close, Birchwood, Warrington, on July 25, 2021 and found 63.8 grams of cannabis worth about £600.
Officers also seized £480 cash and when his mobile phone was examined “there were messages clearly indicating dealings with users of cannabis,” said Judge David Swinnerton.
They also found 37 snap bags and scales, Liverpool Crown Court heard yesterday, Friday.
Morley pleaded guilty to possessing cannabis with intent to supply. He had three previous convictions for possessing the drug and producing it in 2019.
Sentencing him Judge Swinnerton said that Morley had been a long-time user of the drug and had been honest enough to say he had not stopped using it but has cut down substantially.
He sentenced him to eight months imprisonment suspended for 18 months and ordered him to carry out 10 days of rehabilitation activities and attend a probation thinking skills programme and a drugs rehabilitation course for six months.
The £480 cash found at his home will be donated to the court’s local charity of the month, Sefton Women’s and Children’s Aid.
