A SPORTING and development programme run by Warrington Youth Zone has benefitted from a cash injection through Police and Crime Commissioner John Dwyer’s Community Cashback Fund.

The Community Cashback Fund sees money seized from criminals reinvested into local communities.
The ‘Train Like a Pro’ program saw young people from Warrington combine sports (such as boxing, football, rock climbing etc) with personal development sessions, 1-1 mentoring and the chance to meet their sporting heroes both at the centre and on trips to sports matches.
During personal development sessions the young people took part in interactive workshops exploring mental health, addiction, nutrition, drugs and alcohol, knife and weapon crime, sports psychology, and managing stress and anxiety.

Police and Crime Commissioner John Dwyer, said: “It was great to see the positive impact the investment has had on the young people involved in this project. Nurturing their talents and complementing them with informative workshops can help deter those who may be on the brink of crime.
“In my Police and Crime Plan, protecting vulnerable and at-risk people is a key priority. This project helps to ensure vulnerable young people are protected from those who wish to exploit them for criminal reasons and prevents them from falling into a life of crime.”

Head of Targeted Programmes, Warrington Youth Zone, Jamie Patterson, said: “We are absolutely delighted that our project was chosen for support by the Police and Crime Commissioner’s Community Cashback Fund.  The funding is helping us make a real difference to the lives of young people involved in or at-risk of anti-social behaviour in Warrington.
“Train Like a Pro has allowed some of our most vulnerable young people to receive the support of trusted adults, learn new skills, and build the confidence to make positive life choices – fundamental skills which we hope will benefit them greatly throughout their future lives.  A huge thank you to the Commissioner for making this project possible.”
