THE Environment Agency, Warrington Borough Council and United Utilities are inviting residents and business owners affected by flooding in Warrington to a multi-agency community drop-in next Tuesday, December 5.

Members of the public will be able to speak to the Environment Agency, Warrington Borough Council and United Utilities about proposals for the Sankey Brook Flood Risk Management Scheme and updates on any recent or planned activities to reduce flood risk in the area.

The Floodhub will also be in attendance to speak to residents and businesses about flood resilience and what you can do to protect your home and business from flooding.
Members of the public can come along to the community drop-in on Tuesday, 5 December at Orford Jubilee Neighbourhood Hub from 2-7pm. Officers from all agencies will be on hand to answer any queries or concerns the public may have regarding flood risk.
Environment Agency Flood Risk Manager, Ollie Hope said: “We understand the devastating impact that flooding can have, which is why protecting people and communities is our top priority. Areas across Warrington are at risk from flooding from the River Mersey, Sankey Brook and other watercourses.
“Our ongoing work with partners is focused on alleviating the distress, disruption and preventing costly damages experienced during and after flooding incidents.”
The Environment Agency, Warrington Borough Council and United Utilities have been working on a range of interim actions and solutions to help reduce the flood risk since Storm Cristoph in January 2021.

These include:
•A sandbag wall was constructed on Rostherne Close, Sankey Bridges. The wall has since been strengthened to reduce the impact of flood flows from Sankey Brook channel.
•The upgrade of two pumps and installation of new electrics as well as raising
•the electric cabinet to a higher level to prevent failure in the event of flooding at Higham Avenue.
•On Charter Avenue in Bewsey, new valves have been successfully installed, reducing the risk of flooding to multiple properties.
•At Densham Avenue in Longford, a new pumping station is operating to reduce the risk of future flooding. The project involved the demolition of the previous drainage system outfall into Dallam Brook and the construction of the new pumping station where three new pumps were installed to help to discharge water from the drainage system into Dallam Brook.
