Long-awaited proposals to rebuild bridge submitted to planners

LONG-awaited proposals to rebuild an ageing railway bridge near Warrington town centre have at last been submitted to borough council planners.

The scheme, submitted by Network Rail, involves the bridge in Rolleston Street and dates back some three years.

It was originally hoped to carry out the work in 2020 but delays, caused by the need to consult nearby residents and exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic, held up work.
The scheme, if approved, is likely to cause heavy traffic congestion in the area, although diversions will be put in place.
Network Rail regards reconstruction of the bridge as “essential.”
The scheme is now being considered by borough council planning officers.
