A 31-year-old man who ploughed his car into a gaggle of geese in Warrington killing seven of them has been told he could end up behind bars.

Abraham Andemariam, who originates from Eritrea, was due for sentence yesterday but this was adjourned as he speaks Tigrinya and there was no interpreter available.

Social media images led to widespread outrage after the incident at about 7.30 am on Saturday, July 15, when he drove a black Hyundai Ioniq into the geese in the road on Omega Boulevard in Great Sankey.

Andemariam was convicted at Liverpool Magistrates Court in his absence of driving without due care and without an MOT and seven offences of killing a wild bird, a Greylag Goose.

District Judge James Hatton agreed to adjourn sentence until next Monday and told the defendant he could face a jail sentence.
Andermariam, of Asbridge Street, Toxteth, was further remanded on bail.

  1. There are plenty of jobs you can do without speaking English…. The job he did was at one of the large warehouses nearby…. Certainly don’t need English for most of those jobs.
