WORKERS at Warrington-based health and social care charity Making Space have been shortlisted for 25 awards in three separate ceremonies.
The Great British Care Awards, the Social Care Leadership Awards and Women Achieving Greatness in Social Care (WAGs) are all held annually to celebrate the outstanding achievements of people in the care sector.
Making Space, which has over 1,000 employees, has finalists in three regional heats of the Great British Care Awards: North West, Yorkshire and East Midlands, with four of the North West finalists based in Warrington.
Wendy Moore is a support worker in the Warrington Day Service. She was shortlisted for the Dignity in Care award, after being nominated by associate director of operations Shane Parnell.
Shane said: “People frequently tell us how Wendy turned their lives around and some go on to volunteer or work in the care sector. Her determination to ensure everyone lives the dignified life most of us take for granted inspires everyone who meets her to do the same.”
The whole team behind the Warrington Psychological Wellbeing Service are in the running for a trophy in recognition of the higher-than-average recovery rates they achieve for people living with mental health issues in the town.
Manager Sam Stockdale said: “From the first assessment and throughout treatment their ethos is to always exceed expectations. They’re compassionate, understanding, encouraging and have a wealth of knowledge about the support available for their patients.”
Support workers at Harpers Green
The team of support workers at Harpers Green, an extra care housing development in Padgate, have also been recognised for its efforts.
“This team is compassionate and completely focussed on the wellbeing of residents,” said manager Liz Kamwithi. “They work so hard and dedicate so much of their time outside work and family commitments to organise fundraising activities. I would love to see them recognised for their dedication and commitment.”
Anna Evans
And finally, newcomer Anna Evans, who joined Making Space as learning and development manager last year, has been shortlisted for the Workforce Development Award. Anna was recognised after implementing initiatives that contributed to the charity being awarded the prestigious Gold Investors in People Status.
“Anna has a passion for enabling others through skills development,” said Making Space associate director of people Tom Cruse.
“She reviewed our entire mandatory training offer to ensure all our colleagues have access to appropriate skills development.”
All the Warrington finalists will find out if they’ll take home the trophies at a ceremony in Manchester on November 11
