Money saving Mayor!

4

BUDGET cuts mean that even the Mayor of Warrington is saving money thanks to a new energy efficient car!
The Mayoral car has been traded in for a cheaper, greener car with advanced fuel efficiency technology and lower CO2 emissions. The overall package for the vehicle will save the council almost £23,000 over three years.
To make the upkeep of the car even greener, waterless car shampoo will be used to clean it in future, saving hundreds of litres of water.
The new car, an Audi A8, has replaced the previous Jaguar.
The three political party leaders in Warrington are backing the more cost efficient and environmentally friendly model. Local residents last year indicated they want the council to retain a quality civic function that is also cost effective.
The Mayor of Warrington Cllr Mike Biggin, said: “We are committed to maintaining a quality civic function, while still ensuring savings are made where possible.
“Trading the older car which was more expensive to run, for a more economical, greener option is just one of the ways that the council is making savings.”

  1. Nice car and good to see they are still trying to save money but how does the A8 compare to the BMW 318d ES as the later has just apparently won the ' Best Executive Car' green car award and it's half the price of the A8. Just wondered and not knocking them for their choice of very nice car of course as I wouldn't say no to one 🙂

  2. Germans Build Great Cars on

Not sure a Mayor and Mayoress in regalia would fit easily in to a 3 series BMW, and the rear legroom is rather small, a 5 series or E class Mecedes would be a better size, but in fairness the A8 is a fine car so probably the right choice. Pity it isn’t actually built in the UK as a Jaguar is, albeit Indian owned. Given that Audi are trying to break in to the civic marketplace, I think that they probably gave Warrington a very good deal to secure the business. How does one become a Mayor, and get to be driven around in luxury.

  3. Silly me… I forgot they wouldn’t be driving themselves to functions as they have a driver so I guess you are right about needing more space in the back. Ooops 🙂

  4. A very thoughless purchase! We ought be expecting “our” Council to buy British and not go for a foreign Mayor’s Car. Mosty companies now are producing “green” cars that could have been acceptable.
