POLICE have issued a warning after a rogue trader offering gardening services made off with cash without carrying out any work at a property in the Fearnhead area of Warrington.
The incident happened on Friday evening when police received a report of a potential rogue trader operating in the Orange Grove area.
The male, who was driving a white van was offering gardening services door to door. One resident agreed to the work and handed over a sum of cash. Unfortunately the male promptly left without carrying out the work.
Police advise: “Please be extra careful with anyone offering services door-to-door. Ask to see a business card or leaflet – a reputable business will have plenty of these with their details on. Don’t feel pressured into agreeing to having work carried out – seek the advice of a family member or neighbour first and check out reviews online. Finally, a reputable business should provide a quote in writing and complete the work before accepting any payment.”

There was a similar incident in Grappenhall when an 80 year old lady responded to a flyer that had been posted through her door.
The man said he would do work on her garden ( cut grass trim a few bushes etc ) for 1200 pounds .
Then he said I can do it now for 950 pounds .
Fortunately the lady had presence of mind to ring her son in law who stepped in and prevented a crime
