POLICE have issued a warning after motorists ignored flood advice following heavy rain across Warrington, with one person being trapped in a car and having to be rescued.

There are a number of roads across the area that are currently flooded due to high rainfall.

One such road is Park Lane in Walton, where Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service attended today due to a number of vehicles getting stuck.

Shortly before 3 pm one fire crew from Birchwood attended at the scene. A person was trapped in a car in flood water and firefighters used a ladder to help assist the person from the vehicle.

Local police also witnessed several drivers driving past the flood warning signs and still wanting to attempt to drive through, they were quickly turned around.
Police have since coned off the road.
A police spokesperson said: “Please take care driving, if you see a flooded road, do not drive through it, find a safer route.”
It follows on from Cheshire Fire & Rescue urging motorists not to ignore flood warnings earlier in the day.
