Council reminds residents to put black bins only out this week

WARRINGTON Borough Council is reminding residents to only put black bins out on collection days this week, with strike action set to resume again next week.

From Tuesday 17 to Friday 20 October, the council is asking people to put their black bin out on the usual bin collection day for the week – even if it would normally be a blue bin collected this week.

UNITE members intend to carry out a second period of strike action from Tuesday 24 October until Monday 6 November.

To accommodate for this second wave of strike action, this week the council will focus on collecting black bin waste (ie normal household waste). However, they will be suspending green and blue bin collections in order to do this.
This means that from Tuesday 17 to Friday 20 October, please put your black bin out on your bin collection day for the week.
Even if it would normally be your blue bin collection during this week, please put your black bin out instead.

Please share this update with your friends, family and neighbours to ensure everyone knows to put black bins out this week.

The council has said from the start, the dispute is linked to national pay negotiations. It is not about local conditions in Warrington – although this has been rejected by the local Unite Union who say the council is rejecting an opportunity to resolve the dispute locally.

The council will continue to update their industrial action webpage with the latest updates: warrington.gov.uk/news/industrial-action-update
