WARRINGTON Town have swooped to sign the experienced former Chester City and Rochdale full back Matthew Doughty who is set to make his debut at Skelmersdale tonight.
The 29-year-old Warrington born left back has joined from Hyde and has also had recent experience at Witton Albion.
Commenting on the signing manager Joey Dunn said: “He gives us balance and experience and is a quality left back with league and conference experience and being Warrington based in also a big bonus for us.”
Doughty started his professional career at Chester City. In 2001 he joined Rochdale where he spent three seasons before moving on to play for Halifax Town and Altrincham respectively.
In 2010 he moved to Witton Albion before joining Hyde in March 2011.
He has previously attracted the interest of many Football League clubs but he joined Rochdale in July 2001 where he established himself as the clubs first choice left back.
He was offered a trial with Southampton, but a broken leg prevented the move going through. Doughty’s first game for Rochdale in August 2001 saw him score in a 2-1 win at Oxford United, the first Football League goal to be scored at the Kassam Stadium.
In 2008, after the relegation of Halifax Town, he joined Conference National side Altrincham leaving in 2010 to join Witton Albion.
He was a Conference League Cup winner with Chester City in 2000-01 and a Conference National play-off finalist with Halifax Town in 2005-06.
