Plans for a safe music festival

POLICE chiefs are planning tactics for a safe and secure Creamfields music festival as 50,000 fans are expected to descend on Daresbury.
It is the sixth time the festival has been held in Daresbury and planning for the policing of the event, which takes place over the August Bank Holiday weekend, is well underway.
People are expected from all over the UK and it is the fourth time that camping on site will be offered.
Cheshire Police has a dedicated team who started planning months ago. Officers are working with partners including organisers, local councils and other agencies.
Chief Inspector Nick Pender said: “We are also working closely alongside the local community to minimise any disruption in the local area and to provide reassurance and advice before, during and after the event – addressing any issues or concerns they might have.
“As part of the planning process we continue to liaise with other police forces, who have similar experience of policing large scale events such as this, and with organisers of other large scale music festivals.”
This year the event opens a day earlier, on Friday August 26 morning and the police operation starts that day at 7am and runs until 2pm on Monday 29.
Police will deal with incidents of crime and disorder and will regularly patrol the campsite to provide reassurance to campers and to deter thieves and support security staff.
Off site police will deal with traffic management and policing the local community that surrounds the site.
Chief Inspector Pender said: “We take all incidents of crime and disorder and anti-social behaviour extremely seriously. Positive action will be taken against anyone who is found to be breaking the law or causing a nuisance.”
He added: “There were no reports of any serious incidents during the 2010 festival and, as a result of meticulous planning and a high-profile police presence, a good natured crowd was able to enjoy the event safely.”
He said security will be tight, searches will be carried out with the use of drugs dogs and there will be amnesty bins for drugs and weapons. There will be an on-site police station.
