Paul paints “Sooty’s House” again – seven years later

SEVEN years after he first painted the landmark building in Lymm known by many as “Sooty’s House”, artist Paul Scales has painted it again.

In December 2016, Paul put his original painting on show and people commented that it showed Lymm in a new light.
Now he’s showing off the new picture which, he admits, is just as “quirky” as the first.
He said: “Two paintings of Lymm – both still very quirky but with some major differences. My style is still very naïve which is fun for me when I am producing any new painting. The new painting is more detailed in many ways from the first but still very much painted in the Paul Scates Art style.
“The new painting shows more of the canal and a canal narrow boat of course. The trees are shown in a totally different way as are the flowers slightly more realistic but remaining naïve.

“The ducks and the swans are still pure fun as are the people and the dog. The “fun seagull” on the chimney, who now finds his way into most of my paintings, almost as my “trade mark” is here to stay.
“It has been a pleasure to produce the second painting of this iconic and probably most photographed building in Lymm. I have now produced 24 paintings of Lymm, many of the pubs and retail outlets in the village and there will be many more to follow. “
Sooty’s House? Well, in case there is anyone who doesn’t know, it used to be the home of Matthew Corbett, of “Sooty and Sweep” fame.
Matthew left the property in 2020 as he retired down south to be closer to his family.
