A PLAN to extend a cottage believed to be around 140 years old has been approved by Warrington councillors.

The scheme involves Main Cottage, in Burford Lane Lymm – part of the historic Burford Farm complex.
Lymm Parish Council objected to the scheme on the grounds of inappropriate development in the Green Belt and because of its impact on nearby heritage assets.

But members of the borough council’s development management committee approved the scheme after being that the borough’s conservation officer said the extension would be of modest proportions and would not cause harm to the setting of any listed buildings.
The committee was told the extension was sought to provide additional living accommodation.

One of many buildings within the Burford Farm complex, it shared a boundary with a Grade 2 listed building but the proposed extension would not have any significant impact on it.
Prior to being converted for residential use, Main Cottage had been an agricultural building.
