Wolves enjoy a whole new ball game!

HISTORY was created when Warrington Wolves first team squad combined rugby training with some soccer skills as they teamed up with their footballing neighbours Warrington Town for the first time.
The Wolves’ coaching staff put both teams through their paces with some training drills, testing tackling skills and more at the Wolves training camp based at the University of Chester Warrington Campus.
Warrington Town also tested the Wolves’ football skills with a few drills of their own. Both squads enjoyed the experience bringing both sporting teams of the town together.
It was a dream come true for home grown Warrington Town striker Chris Gahgan, who grew up alongside Warrington Wolves’ winger Chris Riley.
Gahgan spent eight years as a youngster at Bolton Wanderers, but has been a lifelong Wolves fan.
After sharing a training session with Riley and his Wolves’ heroes Gahgan said: “It has been a great experience training alongside the Wolves – and a dream come true for me.
“It has given the whole team a lift. I enjoyed some of the rugby drills but when it comes to football Riley has got two left feet!” he joked.
Town manager Joey Dunn said: “It has given everyone a real buzz being able to train alongside the Wolves who are world class athletes. It has put a real spring in our step as we prepare for the football season ahead.”
Wolves’ Head of Coaching and Rugby Tony Smith said: “Sessions like this give you a great sense of appreciation. It keeps professional sportsmen grounded when they play alongside those at an amateur level.
“It is fitting that different sports teams within the same town come together and look out for one another. There were plenty of benefits that we gained from the session as I’m sure they did. It was a win, win situation and very enjoyable.”
