AFTER the highs of last week’s opening day victory away at Southport it was back down to earth with a bump for Warrington Town as they were defeated 0-2 at home to Blyth Spartans.
The visitors took the lead in the 13th minute and despite being reduced to 10 men on 34 minutes after Jack Bodenham fouled Buckley-Ricketts on the edge of the area, the Yellows struggled to make the extra man count infront of a home crowd of 1,034.
It went from bad to worse five minutes later when despite being a man down Blyth doubled their lead when JJ Hooper tapped home from close range.
On the stroke of half-time Town were given a lifeline with a penalty for handball but Bohan Dixon’s penalty struck the top of the crossbar.
In the second half Warrington failed to make the extra man count and struggled to create clear cut goal scoring chances and faced an uphill struggle after skipper Dixon was given a straigght red after kicking out after winning a foul on 78 minutes.
With 10 v 10 the Yellow’s keeper Tony Thompson was the busier of the two keepers in the closing stages with back to back saves in the 87th minute.
Warrington have a chance to bounce back quickly from the disappointing defeat when they entertain Buxton on Tuesday evening before a trip to Chorley next Saturday.
